Kevin Cotter, author and businessman who serves as Controller for his now wife’s business GetMomStrong talks about his hilarious approach to getting through the grief of his divorce a number of years ago. Brainstorming with family and friends, Cotter shares, he was able to use “the dress” his former wife left behind to come up with dozens of ways to “repurpose” his ex’s dress. From hammock, to oven mitts, shower curtain, punching bag, pasta strainer, and more…Cotter has Glass laughing throughout this upbeat interview. Cotter shares one of his favorite uses which caused him to write to the dress’ manufacturer to praise them for the durability of their product. Not always tongue in cheek, Cotter admits that the task of “researching” and writing this book was his salvation at a very dark time in his life. Host Glass whole-heartedly applauds Cotter’s efforts.

Author and business executive, Kevin Cotter, who lives in Tucson, Arizona, split with his wife of 12 years in 2009. When his wife moved out of their home he noticed she left one thing behind: her wedding dress. When Cotter asked her what he should do with it, she replied, “Whatever the (bleep) you want!” Cotter, who has an incredible sense of humor, got inventive. He started a blog, then wrote a book, “101 Uses for My Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress,” which became a huge hit. Together, with friends and family, and brother Colin (who took the pictures), Kevin and his crew went about finding unusual uses for the left-behind frock. Cotter made a kite, shower curtain, pasta strainer, painting canvas, golf club towel, punching bag, and scarecrow outfit, to name but a few. The book cover features Kevin in the hammock he cobbled together from the elaborate wedding gown.The best of all, was the tow rope, Cotter confesses. Yes, he even towed a small SUV with it, driving for over a mile with no damage to the dress whatsoever. So impressed was he with the gown’s durability, he wrote the manufacturer to compliment them on the sturdy fabric. Today, Kevin is remarried and now has six children. His wife, Ashley, started a lucrative online business, www.makemomstrong.com, a total body fitness program to help women heal their core and pelvic floor after childbirth. Cotter left a successful sales position to join her company as Controller. Altogether, they couldn’t be more happily married. Cotter is proof that there is a happy life after divorce.
