Where Family Law and Psychology Intersect.

Host David Glass compassionately interviews Alesia Litteral, a domestic violence victim whose husband shot her 7 times with a :45 and then stabbed her more than 30 times in August of 2019. Alesia, who tells Glass that the last words she heard her husband utter were “I’m going to kill you tonight, bitch,” goes into detail about her long coma, her fight for survival, her road to recovery, and everything in between. That night, like many others, Alesia simply thought her abusive husband was just drunk, again. Glass, who is not only a Certified Family Law Specialist, but was once a practicing psychologist, brilliantly navigates his way through the conversation with compassion and grace as he urges her to share the warning signs she ignored; why it was she didn’t leave the five-year marriage shortly after the abuse started, and how she has since dedicated her life to worthy causes that help those suffering from domestic violence and the trauma that stays with them. She shares her terrifying story, step-by-step. As they talk, Alesia lays out practical tips to circumvent the abuse and gives hope through her direct and candid narrative with Glass. She also shares photos, police evidence, and how she yelled for help to a neighbor as she lay on her front porch critically injured. If you wonder if your husband is capable of, or just might try to kill you, this is a must-see Episode. Though chilling, it’s a real wake-up call for anyone suffering from abuse or for anyone who knows someone who is.

As part of the intended purpose of The HourGLASS Podcast, host David Glass also offers great info in his monthly LookingGLASS blog. This month’s posting talks about Domestic Violence—warning signs and red flags that may indicate your ex or intimate partner might be capable of or likely to kill you. Glass runs down these indicators and urges viewers to reach out for help if any of them seem familiar. Rage, beyond control for many, often results in disaster, and Restraining Orders don’t always work.

In the first two LookingGLASS entries of Season 8, Host Glass focused on Parental Alienation Syndrome. He offered 5 ways to avoid it. In the follow up Episode, Glass spelled out the differences and characteristics between Brainwashing, Badmouthing and Gaslighting: all forms of mental cruelty. The current Episode entry segues from “mental cruelty” to “physical cruelty.” Some latest statistics report that 60% of all female murders have been committed by an intimate partner, while males killed by their intimate partner was at 11%. Glass’ current Episode is all about Alesia Litteral’s story; his blog provides info on how to spot the warning signs that she tried to brush off.

This is a must-read entry because Glass asserts that many of us, if not victims, know someone who has encountered intimate partner violence.

Other topics Glass will cover going forward in upcoming spring Episodes will include custody and co-parenting, along with other divorce subjects.

In our Season 8 series, we promised a mashup of topics through 2026: In addition to Parental Alienation, Domestic Violence is chief among them. Host Glass explores intimate partner homicide, which, sadly, has become far too common in our society. People embroiled in heavy conflicts during a contentious divorce often fall victim to ex’s who veer out of control and try or do kill them. On that list is Alesia Litteral, whose alcoholic husband shot her seven times and stabbed her more than 30. She lived to tell and shares her story with David in Episode 3--which debuted March 14. Next up on April 11, in Episode 4, is attorney, former Orange County, CA Senior Deputy District Attorney, and author**, Matt Murphy.** He is an on-air legal analyst for ABC and NewsNation (among other news outlets). He provides insight into intimate partner violence—he has devoted an entire section to it in his book, The Book Of Murder - A Prosecutor’s Journey Through Love and Death, which segues nicely into Glass’ interview with California State Senator Susan Rubio (22nd District), Episode 5 airing, May 9. Rubio not only addresses Domestic Violence, even sharing her own experience as a victim of it, she then goes on to talk about how the case of a familial homicide case (a father killed a couple’s 5-year-old son) prompted her to write Piqui’s Law (CA Senate Bill 331), which passed in 2024. The bill has since influenced countless other U.S. states to take similar steps. Rubio also ticks off the other pieces of legislation she has authored, co-authored, and championed, all of which have passed the California State Senate with flying colors. Summer topics Glass will cover include divorced-parenting issues, like custody battles and co-parenting. Tune in every second Saturday of the month for all these compelling Episodes! All are intense, intriguing and unquestionably illuminating! You’d be a fool to miss any one of them!
