Where Family Law and Psychology Intersect.

Broadcast legal analyst for ABC News, NewsNation, and many others, Matt Murphy, one of the country’s top experts in intimate partner violence that often results in murder, calls it like it is when telling Host Glass about the indisputable red flags that indicate your ex is thinking about and/or likely to kill you. Murphy, a long-time Senior Deputy District Attorney in the homicide unit for the Orange County, Calif. D.A.’s office, and now in private practice handling mostly criminal defense, sexual assault, and DUI’s, shares the reasons for his career path choices and some of the highlights of the high-profile cases he’s prosecuted, including the one against Rodney Alcala, the “Dating Game” contestant, serial killer, and psychopath. Prosecuting more than 100 homicide cases, half of which involved domestic violence, he never lost a one. Host Glass queries him about what triggers a domestic violence perpetrator and Murphy pulls no punches. He opines on the one underlying red flag and riffs on it for much of this THG interview. Guests can learn even more about Murphy’s illustrious career and the subject of murder because he literally wrote the book on it: The Book of Murder: A Prosecutor’s Journey Through Love and Death. In September 2027, Murphy’s next book will share his insight into serial killers. If you want to know what’s behind the psychology of “If I can’t have you, no one can, either,” both Glass and Murphy explain what drives that thought process and then the two toss out some strict guidelines to those who may be in a toxic relationship with an intimate partner on how to stay safe. You can’t miss this. You just can’t!

Intimate Partner homicide and Domestic Violence are on the rise, so in this Episode’s blog entry Glass offers a check list that calls out the behaviors of an intimate partner who just might strike. He details the early signs that he/she is likely to turn violent and possibly kill you, him/herself, or others in the family. As former Deputy D.A. homicide prosecutor (he’s tried 20 high-profile murder cases) and legal analyst, Matt Murphy points out in his interview with Host Glass, the flags are bright neon red. In this blog entry, Glass expounds on that checklist. Both Glass and Murphy give similar advice: Run! Any one of these behaviors are likely a precursor to a pending disaster, whether it’s a painful breakup or the ultimate Domestic Violence “event”: Murder. Listen to the Murphy interview, then be ready to check the boxes of the behaviors Glass “itemizes.” The very first signs according to both Glass and Murphy are when a would-be partner comes on strong shortly after meeting and courting you. Then, over time, when that intimate partner displays signs he/she feels they are losing control over you, they begin to engage in some form of Domestic Violence: Verbal or physical.

In the prior episode with Alesia Litteral, whose alcoholic husband learned she wanted him out of HER house, he began to get physical and a short time later, he shot her 7 times and stabbed her more than 30. Thankfully, she survived. Heed the warning signs that that Glass lays out in this eye-opening blog post and do the same with Murphy’s list.

This is a must-read entry because Glass asserts that many of us, if not victims, know someone who has encountered intimate partner violence. In our next interview (Episode 5), viewers will hear from a prominent criminal defense attorney on what’s at stake for those who may be the perpetrators—those who attack their intimate partner. Naturally, Host Glass’ blog entry will comment on that perspective, only this time providing the consequences for the offender. In sum, the stakes are high and may cause a person to lose more than they bargained for.

Other topics Glass will cover going forward in 2026 summer and winter Episodes will include custody and co-parenting, gray divorce and likely a few surprise guests to talk about these topics.

In our Season 8 series, we promised a mashup of topics through 2026: So far, we’ve covered a father (Victor Dohleman- Episode 1) who fought for 25 years to reunite with his three kids. A renowned psychologist (Dr. Richard Warshak) warned against turning the child(ren) against one’s ex, as he explained Parental Alienation (Episode 2), followed by a compelling story told by (Alesia Litteral) a Domestic Violence victim who survived a violent attack by her husband. In Glass’s most current episode, Host Glass explores intimate partner homicide with former Orange County, Calif. D.A. prosecutor and network analyst, Matt Murphy (Episode 4). During Murphy’s chat with Host Glass, Murphy explicitly ticks off every red flag an ex can expect that signals his/her ex is likely or capable of killing them. Murphy pulls no punches, nor does Glass, who chimes in on the troubling subject (Episode 4). Murphy has devoted an entire section to “flags” in his book, The Book Of Murder - A Prosecutor’s Journey Through Love and Death, which will segue into Glass’ interview with fierce defense trial attorney, Mark Geragos, whose highly-publicized trials have made headlines over several decades. He talks directly to the would-be Domestic Violence offender about what is likely in store for that intimate partner if they veer out of control and attack their ex or current partner (Episode 5). Coming up as summer kicks off will be California State Senator Susan Rubio (22nd District), who not only addresses Domestic Violence, she will even share her own experience as a victim of it. She will then go on to talk about how the case of a familial homicide case (a father killed a couple’s 5-year-old son) prompted her to write Piqui’s Law (CA Senate Bill 331), which passed in 2024. The bill has since influenced countless other U.S. states to take similar steps. Rubio will also tick off the other pieces of legislation she has authored, co-authored, and championed, all of which have passed the California State Senate with flying colors. Other summer and fall topics Glass will cover in Season 8 include divorced-parenting issues, like custody battles and co-parenting, and gray divorce, a trending norm now among older intimate partners.
